Day 10 - 18/2

Unfortunately it has come to the final day of our Immersion Programme. We are devestated to be finishing this Immersion Programme, however we have really bonded as a group and have learned so much from our time here which has definitely changed our perspective on life.
To start off with the day, we did our morning routine as per (no need to go into detail by now...), and we set off on the metro, arriving to St. Georges.

As it was our final day we all went to the school together, instead of St. Marys. We began our first class by making shamrocks out of card which the kids really loved, followed by teaching them the classic Dreolin dance.

We held a very competitive contest between the girls and the boys in which the girls won! Next we went on break with class 4 which was lovely as we got to spend some time with them before we headed off the following morning. We played baskebtall, tag, badminton and various other games. Afterwards, just before they headed back to class we said our goodbyes which was super upsetting and then went on our break to refresh before going to the library for henna. Various different girls from classes did our henna for us. They made up their own designs while also using some designs some of us had previously saved. We were really impressed by the skills of the girls as all the designs were really impressive, intricate and very creative and took almost 2 hours to finish.

While some of the girls were doing our henna others were making us bracelets and kindly gifted us a beaded bracelet each. We took some photos and went for lunch. We struggled to eat our lunch with our wet henna but we managed to eat a lot of ice cream!! After lunch, we met with the CBS boys and talked for a while. Brother Franco played some amazing violin pieces for us which we all really enjoyed. Finally, it was time to say goodbye to St. George's. We arrived back to St. Mary's and reflected on the day and the trip - fair to say it was quite emotional. Before packing up and playing some final games before bed as we have an early start in the morning (4.00am). Overall this trip has given us an amazing experience that none of us will ever forget and we are so grateful for the oppurtunity.
We have also yet to mention that the brothers we have stayed with have an 8 week old golden retriever named Luna, who we have very much enjoyed having her here and she has been a great companion for all of us and we will miss her a lot!

Day 1 & 2

9th and 10th of February Hello all,  We are glad to let you know that we have arrived safely on our journey to Kolkata. We had a long first day. When we got off the flight we were warmly greeted by the brothers who picked us up from the airport. The culture shock hit us immediately when we were passing the sellers on our bus ride chopping off the heads of chickens! We settled into our new home for the next ten days very quickly and had a short nap to keep us going. Later on in the day we wandered into the city to experience the busy atmosphere of the city. We got to familiarise ourselves with the metro system in the city, safe to say it was a very tight squish on the metro... After our eventful trip to the city, we had dinner and took a well needed early night. After a good night's sleep, we all got up and got ready for our day. We had a selection of teas and juices and toast to start the day off. We gathered our supplies and carried them from St.Mary's (Our accommodation) to t...

Day 3 - 11/02/25

Starting off the day we got up, had breakfast and got ready to leave St. Mary's. Eight of us and Ms Kinsella and Ms. Ni Chairbre, took the metro to St. George's, where we greeted our class. It was lovely to see some familiar faces from the children we bonded with on Monday. Meanwhile the other group stayed in St. Mary's where they took part in various activities with the children with intellectual disabilities and they very much enjoyed their day. At St. Georges we continued with our lesson plans and sat in on a few classes. We enjoyed engaging with the children and teachers throughout the day. At the start of the day there was an assembly where two groups performed dances and presented us and the boys from CBS with beautiful bracelets and scarves for the teachers, which was such a nice welcoming.  After another class we played games in the yard with all of the children which was a lot of fun. Throughout the day, we took part in various activities such as English class wher...
