Today we had a bit of a lie in before getting ready for the day which was a nice treat. We went on a bus tour around Kolkata, which we were all really excited for. We were greeted by our lovely tour guides Paro and Tirtha. We embarked on our journey and headed to the Birla Krishna Temple. We had to take off our shoes and Amelie was proud to jump right into the deep end by even taking off her socks!! We were shown around the temple and were educated about the different Hindu gods which was extremely fascinating.
Afterwards we hopped back on the bus and made our way to the next destination. We arrived at the Victoria Memorial which was breathtaking and we made sure to take lots of photos. This was definitely one of our favourite places we visited today.
We then walked over to St. Pauls Cathedral (an Anglican Cathedral) which was beautiful. Then we went for an nice walk along the Ganges River and had a great view of the new suspension bridge that connects Kolkata to Howrah.
We then made our way to a really nice Indian restaurant for lunch where we pretty much ordered the entire menu.
After the delicious meal we headed to a chai tea place nearby. A lot of us tried a tea and it was even in disposable clay cups made by the local people.
Next on the agenda we visited a local village where an abundance of people were crafting, sculpting, painting and building various types of different decorations and sculptures for upcoming festivals e.g. Ganesh Puja which is an Hindu festival celebrating the god Ganesh.
Finally we visited the last temple of the day which was extremely beautiful. It was called the Jain temple and was covered in hand painted tiles and pieces of silver and gem stones. It is coloquially known as the Jewel Box which makes a lot of sense. The same as the first temple we took off our shoes before entering and got shown arond. After a fulfilling day of touring around the city of Kolkata we got back on the bus and drove home, at this point everyone was super tired and ready to have a restful evening. Once we came home we relaxed, ate dinner, reflected on our day, played some cards and headed to bed.
